Steam down reports are on the rise with users of Valve’s digital distribution service reporting issues.

Independent outage monitor Down Detector has registered a spike in Steam down reports.

Out of those affected some 50 per cent are experiencing login issues while 42 per cent are having trouble with Steam online gaming.

The Down Detector outage map says the Steam down issues are mainly affecting gamers in the UK, Europe and parts of the US.

As the reported Steam issues emerged users took to social networking site Twitter to report issues they had encountered.

One tweeted: “steam down now its time to panic”

Another posted: “is ur @Steam down too?”

One tweeted: “Steam friend list is down…”

And another added: “@Steam_Support Steam is down, it’s pretty tough in times of quarantine”.

However, despite the reported Steam issues the Unofficial Steam Status website has not reported any issues with the service.

The reported Steam server issues come after the high-profile release of Half Life Alyx earlier this week.

Half Life Alyx is the first new entry in the iconic Valve series for more than a decade.

Half Life Alyx was released on Monday on Steam and is a VR only entry in the HL series which takes place before the events of Half Life 2.

The new Half Life game debuted to widespread critical acclaim.
